Was sooo happy to get my new Lamy Al-Star Fountain Pen in a rich CopperOrange. Although I ordered the cartridge converter with it, they sent a free blue ink cartridge, so I thought I’d try it out!
Now, all my black and grey inks are purchased with a waterproof factor in mind. Never gave that a thought as I sat and sketched my cute wave pansies. The pen worked so smoothly and I felt like I now had a “Porsche” to replace my existing tribe of pens. (Well, not replace, so much as enhancing my collection!) Of course, the pansies are rich shades of pink, so I started to add some quinacridone red, and, well, here’s the result.
It’s not waterproof ink!
Lesson learned, I will get that cartridge converter into action before trying a sketch that needs some color added!
PS – By the way, the blue ink would be great to use with just water in a monochrome theme!
Decided to DIY another veggie – here’s a zucchini plant and the new spade/pitchfork I bought to help clear out the weeds so it could be planted. I know, it’s not as early in the season as it could be, but – I tend towards optimism!
This zucchini is now safely nestled in the ground.
And long-legged bright beauties like these day lilies keep me optimistic!
These brilliant poppies appear in my yard every year, even though I don’t do anything special to them. In fact, the first few years I lived here, I weed-whacked ’em down, thinking they were a nuisance! I’m so glad they stuck around.
My second and last night in Rome (last month) was at the Hotel Forum. If you’re there, be sure to stop at the American bar on the rooftop for fantastic views of nearby buildings and ruins. Also, the roses were blooming so I couldn’t resist sketching them too!
I recently travelled to Laguna Beach, CA for a marketing seminar – the place we stayed at was gorgeous! I loved that I could hear the ocean at night – hey, it sounded just like the app on my phone!
The beach – right outside my room!
Laguna Motor Werks – old gas pump
We had an extra afternoon to visit the nearby mission at San Juan Capistrano. No swallows were there yet, but we did see 2 hummingbirds. They were flitting about, but stopped often to rest in a tree. It was my first time ever seeing a hummingbird sitting still. They are so very, very tiny!
