I can’t believe what a fun and great learning experience this week has been! Sadly, only one more day to go.
Today we had a model (Carla) to paint. Charles had his usual painterly, vivid and creative result. We students tried our hand at capturing her this afternoon. Not quite the same. Apparently we all had trouble seeing her as she actually was and finding the lights and darks. I was pretty happy with my attempts! But – after holding a photo of her next to my painting, it became clearer what I was doing wrong. So – I learned something new today, and hopefully I will use that knowledge tomorrow. Oh wait, have I mentioned I’m not the best student?
Hehe. No, seriously, I will try to do better!

We worked from old photographs yesterday. The first image is Charles’ demo, the second is my attempt. I like his face, but not happy with the clothing. Charles liked the clothing, but thought the face could use more color. *sigh* He is right!

Keeping busy with a sketch while waiting…

These children are not newborns anymore, let’s leave it at that. I hope ‘better late than never’ is okay. It took me forever to make these cute name sketches, and now they are matted, framed and wrapped.

Last night I went out for dinner with some friends – they surprised me with a “going-away” gift bag (drawn here) for my upcoming travel adventure!   
I am so lucky in life – and have the most awesome friends!!!!

What a beautiful day! Perfectly sunny – so went for a walk in the park, then to the phone store to make sure my phone will work in Europe, then out to breakfast where I ate eggs benedict until I was completely full, then ate some more. What can I say, everything was delicious!
So back home for a bit of r&r, then house work, and finally get down to some drawing.

Not a very successful drawing (I felt) of my dinner.  But, I’m trying not to be too critical, so this is still getting posted. If I wait for drawing that I am happy with, I might post only once a year!

I didn’t notice the cannon and the pile of cannonballs on the wine label until I started drawing it.  What a unique idea for a wine name! And…it was very smooth.  Yum!
